Wool on Sundays – 159 (Ellen and the Star Dog)

To wool or not to wool…that is a question I have been pondering. Really, the hey day of Wool on Sundays was long ago before I switched from blogger to WordPress and the place for knitters on the web is clearly Ravelry.

But I do find it a convenient way of separating yarn work from sewing on my blog and, more than that, I feel my badge is a sort of memorial to my beautiful small flock of sheep who are no longer with us. And with most of the internet going to great lengths to sell you something or just outright sell you to someone, I have come to the conclusion that maintaining a small, poorly attended linky party once a month is a harmless eccentricity.

So welcome to Rainbow Hare for the first Wool on Sundays of 2019 :)

Fortune favours those who keep their New Year’s resolutions. This is Ellen and Ellen has been getting up early every morning, rain or shine, and going out for a walk. Sometimes she feels sad to be walking always alone but once the sun rises and the birds start singing she says to herself, “This really is the nicest time of day to be out!” And she is determined not to break her resolution.

These days, she has to wrap up warm so she puts on her knitted hat and scarf, her crochet coat and, of course, her knitted, felt-soled boots because nothing, as we all know, is warmer than wool in cold weather.

Today Ellen found a little dog, who had fallen from the stars during the night. He was crying because he didn’t like walking by himself and he had got lost in the snow.

So Ellen is taking him home with her to care for him and, now she will have a companion on her morning walks :)

If you have any yarn themed posts, I’d love you to link up. The rules, as usual, are: 1). Posts must include some content – makes or musings or photos – related to knitting, crochet, felting, spinning or yarn. 2). Projects sewn from felt or wool fabric or stitchery using wool are also welcome but please don’t link posts that are exclusively about sewing, quilting and non-woollen fabrics. 3). Posts don’t have to be from the past week but please put a link to WOOL ON SUNDAYS in or at the bottom of any posts you link up. 4). MOST IMPORTANT visit anyone else who links.

The next Wool on Sundays will be on Sunday March 3rd 2019.

A Feast of Fools

As long liveth the merry man, they say, As doth the sorry man, and longer by a day…

(Ralph Roister Doister)

I wish you the very Happiest of New Years!

When I posted a Merry Midwinter Mouse, I little expected that it would be Twelfth Night before I blogged again but I’m sure you know how it is with the best made plans. Since I was here last we decked the hall with boughs of holly…

And adorned the twig tree with festive bits and pieces. And filled the house with evergreens and baubles and music and merriment…

And (amongst more prosaic things like dentists and driving back and forth to airports through thick fog) we spent many a happy hour around the Christmas tree with friends and family, day and night…

And I made a merry little man of misrule who greatly surprised me by playing the piano upside-down.

You might imagine that he would get short shrift from the Midwinter Faery, who presides over the festivities from her wreath above the piano.

But, on the Feast of Fools, even she must give way to his foolery. Poppy could hardly believe her eyes!

But now is the night of the twelfth day of Christmas and the presents are over and done. The tinsels and baubles are put away and the tree is carried out to the bonfire. The Christmas cards are cut down and the pine needles are swept up.

And the house looks empty and bare and the Spring is a long way off but perhaps, just perhaps, a little merriness lingers to last us throughout the year.

I’m not sure whether the lovely Soma at Whims and Fancies is going to continue with her Wandering Camera linky parties this year but, if she does, I will link this post :)

I am linking this post with Soma’s January Wandering Camera Linky Party :)

Camera And Photography Linky Party

Today, I’m linking up with Soma over at Whims and Fancies for her second Wandering camera linky party. Weatherwise, we’ve had a very dull and gloomy month and, since I’ve been without my actual camera, I’ve been rather avoiding taking photos. One morning, however, when there was a break in the rain we took Poppy to the sea. Armed with my phone, I set off into the wind feeling confident of getting some wonderful shots in natural daylight. But, alas, no!

I know lots of people take brilliant pictures with their phones so I must be doing something wrong. Ironically, my indoor pictures were a bit better.

Today is a little brighter so I’m also sharing some peaks of my latest project…

I’m hoping that I’ll soon have my camera back and, with Soma’s tips, my photography may improve!
