Hexie Mania

EPP Mat

When I started the New to Me pastime of EPP Hexies earlier in the month, I can’t say that I wasn’t warned about how addictive Hexies can be…

I used them, whilst still in progress, for another New to Me project – The Small Crochet Frame Purse Tutorial – but my actual piecing wasn’t great and I didn’t want to end up with a badly pieced quilt so I decided to consider it a practice piece and finish it up as as a mat to go under the dish drainer! I also don’t know if I really have the time or patience to make an EPP double bed sized quilt so I decided to start a smaller EPP project using some scraps of a ruined vintage table cloth…

…and to machine piece the quilt using larger hexagons.

I think I’m going to be hexie-ing for a while.

Oh, they can be addictive! I save my scraps all year and make hexies in the winter. Is it a project that ever ends? I use a punch to make my templates so at least I am recycling some paper as well.

A dish drainer mat? What a wonderful idea, Janine…and such a pretty one too!!! I love the idea of using hexies cut from old embroidered linen…it looks great! I think a large quilt made of hexies is often an ongoing project done over a few years…one day I might start one! Lol

It nearly seems a shame to let your dishes drip onto this mat, but it sure does look pretty.
I refuse to make hexies for fear that I might catch the hexie bug :)

Such pretties hexies, Janine. Love the little touch of the embroidered linen in the centre. Now I am waiting to see a double bed size hexie……you know you want to. =)

Crafting + addictive in the same sentence = something so many of us have to keep in check, lol. I like Carol’s idea to save specific projects for winter time! Your hexies – and drainer mat – are sweet :)
