Autumn in July

The last sunset of July and it’s starting to look a lot like September…

Everywhere is parched or wilting and the leaves are turning brown and starting to fall.

I don’t remember when it rained last but it must have been May or early June and, apart from the vegetable plot and some sunflowers I’ve been growing for my youngest son’s wedding next week, I have quite abandoned the garden. Even that, though, is taking an inordinate amount of time – just to keep it all alive.

Sooner or later the rains will come and all at once everything will be green and thriving again and we will marvel and the miracle of it all but, until then, we have grown used to mediterranean temperatures and are, mostly, enjoying our best Summer for fifty years.

Inside, I’ve made some progress with the Granny Square blocks but I’ve got to 25 and this is all the yellow I have left so I’ve sewn them together and I’m pondering what to do next.

I was feeling that I was on track with the Oh Granny! quilt but I can see I might struggle to get much sewing done over the next couple of weeks so I had better come up with a plan!

I hope you are having a lovely Summer with ever growing flowers and quilts :)

(If you subscribe to my blog by email, firstly, thank you :) Secondly, I really recommend you view the web version because otherwise you end up with a random scramble of photos and I don’t know how to stop that happening).

A wedding! Forget the Granny Blocks! Just kidding, maybe put them on hold for a bit. Your scenes and the word pictures go hand-in-hand and are so idyllic. Today was 102 for us, and your description of parched landscapes was dead on. Even our desert-succulents look rather beleaguered. I’m just hoping you don’t get any of those fires that are popping up around Europe, and which gets great press here.
Did I tell you I’ll be in London mid-September? Are you far from there?

Wedding comes first! This is so special and always a family story!! I get goosepimpels when I read it. How nice if two young people find together.
Enjoy it. Your sewing is so nice. And yes, this is as well here in Germany, dry dry and extra dry.
    Have a happy time

Hi Janine, it looks like your plan worked since you did get your Granny quilt done. It’s really so cheerful and lovely! Thanks so much for linking it up to I Quilted This
