It’s the eleventh hour! The eleventh hour, that is to join the PLAY Mini Quilt Competition with Jenna at Sew Happy Geek. If you click on the button below you will find the rules and a list of fab prizes.
I saw this competition a while ago and I’ve been following along with Jenna’s quilt, which she has finished, btw, and it’s truly beautiful and with Fiona’s brilliantly sparkling Ace of Diamonds at Celtic Thistle. And there is more playing card inspiration on the the Flickr group.
I’ve been very tempted by this competition but, to start with, I didn’t have time and then I assumed I was too late. But apparently not. I have until midnight on Monday!
So what to make?
Here are a few ideas…
The Joker can be an extremely beneficial, or an extremely harmful, card. In Euchre it is often used to represent Benny, the highest trump. In poker, it is wild. However, in the children’s game named Old Maid, a solitary joker represents the Maid, a card that is to be avoided (Wikipedia).
And that somehow got me thinking about King Lear, where the king is a fool and the fool is wise, and I ended up with 3). But would this count as ONE card – a competition rule? Do you see this as a foolish king or as a Joker wearing a crown? Is there a difference between the two options anyway?
And, more importantly, which one shall I make? Which card do you like best?
Cindy
The kite card is the one I like the best….but your joker is very intriguing.

Love your Kite. Very clever and great fun. If I wasn't knee deep already, I would join this one too. But no time White Rabbiting away!

I'm with the other two, the Joker is very clever (and almost impossible to look at both aspects on an iPad!) but the kite idea is so fab, I'm going to vote for that too!

I love stories with a twist, so the Joker/King gets my vote! If it hadn't been for the King Lear backstory though, the kites would have been my favourite!

I like your joker sketch & would vote for that one, but more importantly the joker seems to have more interest/inspiration for you, so I say go for it! :) I can't wait to see what you stitch up for this :)
