And Fly They Did – The Most Spectacular Party (Part 3)

Happy May!

Another month, another party post. But now I am officially old and the party is over. All bar taking down some decorations, which are doing no harm.

After the wands, I didn’t manage to sew the felt hats and wings and the miscellany of random eccentricities I had planned but, whilst life took days (and days and days) from me, it gave in exchange an abundance of cardboard boxes which arrived unexpectedly, housing some grids that are now under gravel on out drive.

Luckily, I intercepted their journey to the bonfire and, since the Makery is not short of paint, some industrious late night cutting and colouring made up for the dearth of fabric.

Some judicious purchases from an online market place provided us with balloons and hats and the kindness of some early guests enabled me to get my trail set up just in time to drive to a local Chinese restaurant, which marked the beginning of our festivities.

And, if you are remembering my conversation with Mrs Hare, when I started planning this party…

…you might be wondering if the pigs did fly. And I can tell you, Yes. They did.

And some vintage planes flew and a rocket flew and so did one of a pair of unicorns…

And a dragon flew but, sadly, I have no photo. We left him soaring over the stable when we went for lunch and I can only assume St George must have visited whilst we were out. I pinned him up as best I could with drawing pins but he was never a patch on his former self.

And you might be wondering if it really was The Most Spectacular Party. And that depends how you look at it. The decorations took pretty much all my time so the house was a tip and various guests (all family members) kindly assisted with decorating and cooking and clearing up, which is not what you go to a party hoping to do.

But I think the Balloon Trail was a big surprise and was, for sure, the most spectacular party entertainment in the history of Pond House (where, to be fair, we do not generally have party entertainment). I wrote a poem and we followed around the trail with balloons given out at to guests at each stop on the journey and I hope, once I have improved my photo editing abilities, to make a story book with us all in the illustrations…We also had egg and spoon racing, croquet and outdoor games an and afternoon tea and a barbecue.

Once the dust had settled, over a cup of tea, Mrs Hare said she thought it really had been quite spectacular.

And we both agreed that it had certainly been quite spectacular enough.

Wishing you a very Happy Weekend :)
