The Forlorn Fettle

Happy New Year!

Anyone who saw my post Fettling with Archie last January could be forgiven for thinking I forgot to fettle in 2023 but actually it was just a terrible, terrible year for making here at Rainbow Hare. I linked up with Helen at Archie the Wonder Dog and made a very modest list in the hope and expectation of making reasonable progress on a variety of projects but I was just inundated and interrupted and generally thwarted at every turn.

2024, surely, will be better because I really can’t be doing with another twelve months like that but in the meantime, this is it…

The Sewing/Quilting List…Four Art Quilts for The Endeavourers Challenges (the one for February 1st is started) – An art quilt for my new grandson and one for my Granddaughters’ nursery – A bed quilt for my elder granddaughter. Some dresses for my granddaughters.

The knitting list…Two Christmas stockings and jumpers and cardigans for all and sundry.

The Miniatures List...The little Blue Shop and Pumpkin just need some finishing touches and Granny Square’s Caravan basically just needs wheels and a way to fasten the front on. The lighthouse needs a light and some general odds and ends. But the pub has a great deal to do and the other shops are just begun or not really started so there is a LOT to do.

The Random List…One christening cake and two (commissioned) wedding gifts.

I mainly managed a bit of knitting because I can do it almost in my sleep and also ended up making a surprising number of cakes…

Soon I will make a new new list because you never know…

Congratulations to everyone who had more success and Good luck with whatever you are hoping to make this year :)

I am currently working on chipping my way out of my eggshell of house-elfness and hoping to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of my poor abandoned blog…

(If you subscribe to my blog by email, firstly, thankyou :) Secondly, I really recommend you view the web version because otherwise you end up with a random scramble of photos and I don’t know how to stop that happening).

Well, I’m not sure I’d agree that it hasn’t been a great year for making at Rainbow Hare! Your projects that you knitted, those cakes, and the art quilts are all creative, fun and amazing. Here’s to more creative fun in 2024!

I think you pulled off some amazing makes in 2023 Janine! The cakes are all amazing I would have been delighted to have produced just one of them in the year :) I think that we often fall in and out of love with different crafts so, maybe, 2024 will be your year for making miniatures, but if not I am sure you will have a wonderfully creative year in some form or other :)

It looks like a wonderful accumulation of pretties fashioned by you, if you were to ask me. Love all those wee knitted woollies, and the cakes are amazing. Happy New Year to your, Janine!

2023 was the year of the fantastic cake! And of cosy knitting for loved ones, I’m not sure that counts as forlorn but I do hope you get some more time to work on the miniatures this year. Thanks for joining in (and don’t forget to link up)!

I look at all your finishes and am totally impressed with the breadth of your talents and skills. Those cakes! Those sweaters! Those brilliant Endeavorer finishes! Everything is beautiful, and just amazing. So a fettle is a finish? (Just trying to learn a new word, here.)
