“Can you make a quilt for someone as a wedding present? They like mice so it would be good if if it could have some mice on it”.
My initial response to this (apart from trying to push thoughts of the pied piper out of my head) was that it should be possible…Then I learned that the wedding was going to be in two weeks.
So we came to a compromise. They would have the Scrappy Trip Along quilt.

And a cushion with some mice and some patchwork squares on it.
I copied the mice from the lovely Clothworks Chocoholics range. I would probably have ordered some of the actual Clothworks Chocoholics fabric and made something more traditionally patchwork but I didn’t have sufficient time to order it, especially as I couldn’t source any in the UK.
I appliquéd the mice using Wash Away appliqué sheets. It was the first time I’ve tried these sheets and I loved them. I’ve heard they leave a raised finish when they are washed out but I haven’t washed this and, for a pictorial project, I’m very happy with a raised effect anyway.
I made the back from two complementary fabric book samples. Both my daughters like the back best – this is why I have to blog ;-)
Fortunately, I just made the deadline and the cushion is posted and on its way (the quilt was taken in person already) and to celebrate I’m linking up with Nicky for Scraptastic Tuesday!

Oh, I must find out about those, I never heard of wash away applique sheets. I am used to using bondaweb or vliesofix… Research on!

Scraptastic it is!! LOVE IT!! Oh those mice are both so sweet. I noticed the romantic fellow has a li'l wool scarf to keep his neck warm; such a gorgeous touch! Though the back of the cushion is lovely with a beautifully sewn in zipper……what do your daughters know!! ;)
