Merry MidWinter

Mid Winter’s night already and almost midnight!

I was meaning to post about the great curtain debacle in the Makery but, what with our garage being turned into an annex (which involves filling our house with mud and dust and flooring and pieces of kitchens and bathrooms…) and two new baby granddaughters (one born a month ago and one just a week ago), we barely know whether we are coming or going here at Rainbow Hare. It would be pity, though, to pass by the shortest day of the year.

In a nutshell, I made some teal curtains for our bedroom and Mrs Hare and I rather wished we had kept them for the Makery to complete our recent makeover so we searched ebay and found some very grand golden ones. They soon arrived and we both agreed they are probably the most beautiful curtains in the world. There really are quite stunning in person but, alas, despite being wonderfully golden, when we hung one it looked dull and brown and drab just truly awful.

Luckily, I then came upon two matching secondhand pairs, which I cobbled together to make a big enough pair for the window with a matching valance. They have a little paint on an edge and rather more joins than is strictly proper but all that hardly notices and the colours are perfect.

As soon as she saw them, Mrs Hare exclaimed, “I have May Day in my heart!” – a delightful expression in the hare lore, which I understand means something akin to “My heart is filled with joy”.

Now, our Makery is complete and we are all set for next year but before that, here is a Winter Story – shockingly from 2014!

A WINTER STORY

Wishing you the merriest of midwinters :)
