Make Something Today!

Here at Rainbow Hare, I’ve been carrying on with the Makery makeover.

Before the Sashiko, I was re-arranging the furniture in the Makery and my newly very pink table was making everything else look decidedly dull so I painted a random piece of furniture, which might once have been part of a bureau (and which we bought about thirty years as part of a joblot in an auction house in Crystal Palace) the same pink.

Please excuse the walking boots – I found them in a sale and took a photo to show my daughter!

Having brightened that up and created a little table-top storage, I gave an old cupboard (bought as part of the same joblot) a coat of teal chalk paint and a lace panel and then I got everything sorted out and more organised so I can find what I’m looking for at least some of the time.

And then I got to thinking that the sashiko-in-colour garland was really too big for the wall above the table. I liked the general idea, though, so I made a selecting of letters by sandwiching a piece of wadding between two patches of fabric. So far, I have made some letters by stitching on lace, some by stitching on buttons and some by fusing fabric. When I have time, maybe I’ll embroider some…

The wadding lets me stitch on the surface of one side of the patches without going through to the back so I can put different letters on the back as and when I want to write something else and I am using mini pegs to attach the letters to the strings so I can rearrange them at leisure :)

The command hooks, I agree, are not an attractive feature but working out where to put them put them was a bit experimental. I should really find a way of disguising them or switch them out for nails but first I have two Christmas stocking to knit.

I hope you are making something today that makes you smile :)

(If you subscribe to my blog by email, firstly, thank you :) Secondly, I really recommend you view the web version because otherwise you end up with a random scramble of photos and I don’t know how to stop that happening).
