For this week’s round of the SAHRR, Wendy from Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Life chose the sliced square for her block. I wanted to get my quilt from a circle to a square this week so I made signature blocks using 4″ white squares (slashed) and 7 1/2″ red ones.

I liked these as an all over pattern (because they looked like stretched hexagons surrounded by a white star effect and that somewhat went with the centre pattern) and I intended to make this round 7 blocks square but it over-powered the centre so I reduced it to 6 blocks and it will still take some blending together! So far, it is finishing at 42″.
Since the washing line photo, I have sewn the circle onto the background but the hares and stars are still reliant on pins…

Outside it cold and often raining but, always, there is something interesting and the tiny buds are whispering that the leaves are on their way.

Now I shall link up with Wendy and see everyone else’s slashed squares :)

(If you subscribe to my blog by email, firstly, thank you :) Secondly, I really recommend you view the web version because otherwise you end up with a random scramble of photos and I don’t know how to stop that happening).

I love how you made your slice blocks, Janine. They really do look like elongated hexies!! Very nice!! Yes, even if it’s cold and rainy, we should always find some joy in what we can see outside! Love your photos!

Janine, this is just so much fun. I really love the way the signature block does the hexie/star thing. It is turning out so well!

What a clever idea and perfect sewing. It is really very interesting how different all the SAHRR grow and how different they are.
Yours is amazing. Red is not my colour but I love to see the power it brings into your quilt.

J’adore ton ouvrage, c’est très original d’avoir commencé par un cercle. Le résultat est magnifique, j’ai hâte de voir la suite!

Oh, I love this! You’ve come quite the distance since that little rabbit in the center, and everything is really working well. As mentioned in my last note, I love that circular border, and applaud your shift to a square quilt. Good use of that block — it may have been really difficult, but you made it look easy. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
