SAHRR Round 1

Here are the blocks for my first round. I made the signature strip 1″ to coordinate with the DWR blocks but they look thinner for some reason. I haven’t attached them to my centre yet because I realised my centre block was actually less a block than a random shape that was on the verge of warping out of control. In an endeavour to take it in hand, I appliqued it onto a square of light blue.

Then I concluded my best course of action was to make this a QAYG so I added some wadding and backing. I have managed to secure it by sewing round the nine main circles but I would like to finish quilting this section before joining on more pieces. I like the possibility of actually having it quilted and finished by the parade, though that is probably just wishful thinking!

Below are the options I’m considering for attaching my signature blocks. As this quilt is quite big already, I am going to reserve judgement until the next round because I hope I might be able to make 4 blocks and use them in the corners.

Today I am linking up my 1st round with Wendy @ Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Life and then I will be visiting each of the SAHRR co-host bloggers, and anyone else who has linked up, to see their first round. After that, I will be following this schedule and adding a border a week…

I hope one of these weeks will be HSTs because I seem to have quite a few of them :)

Happy Sewing!

(If you subscribe to my blog by email, firstly, thank you :) Secondly, I really recommend you view the web version because otherwise you end up with a random scramble of photos and I don’t know how to stop that happening).

I love what you are doing with the quilt. Sometimes you just have to think a bit more on the borders (or wait for the next round) before it all comes together in a way that feels right. You are moving forward, though, so it’s all good!

I love how you made your signature blocks with the blue background on one side and the variety of colors on the other! That makes a really pretty border!

This is fun and I like the narrow line for the signature block! It is such a different center. I am sure you will find a way to use the HSTs…we are a pretty liberal group. If you and make a story up to match the prompt – it works!
