2023, it seems, is fast becoming the year of cake…
In July, when I didn’t find time to blog about anything at all, we had another birthday and with fondant icing still left over from the mammoth project that was the christening cake, I made another birthday cake…

Another zoo-in-the-garden party had been planned, this time with a flamingo twist, but after more than a month of dry weather, the rain decided to visit and it became a tent-and-gazebos-in-the-garden party instead.
Although it rained very solidly, it was quite warm and we all had a lovely time so all turned out well and the garden was glad of it.

This was a much quicker and simpler cake, based on those vintage alphabet and number cards.
Unfortunately, I had some trouble with the fondant icing cracking (which was annoying because it was in date and had been kept airtight and the pink was unopened) but the overall effect was all right and it tasted fine.

I hope you are having a nice Summer whatever the weather :)

(If you subscribe to my blog by email, firstly, thank you :) Secondly, I really recommend you view the web version because otherwise you end up with a random scramble of photos and I don’t know how to stop that happening).

Oh my goodness, what a cute cake! You are amazing. The flamingos are perfect! I’m sure you all enjoyed a lovely day together, rain or shine! Happy Birthday to Freya!

Hi Janine, the cake is lovely. That’s quite a skill! If I make a cake, it’s got a coconut, sugar and butter topping. Nothing fancy here. Well done. Hope you are well.
