I’ve finished up the Gingham Squares quilt! I quilted in organic straight lines, partly because I thought it would give a softer effect but mainly because I’ve done something to my back (which I hope is slowly getting better) and I couldn’t manage all the bending involved in my usual line marking. I’m not overly keen on how it’s turned out and, in future, I think I’ll stick with marked lines but I’m glad to have it finished and the polka dot print I used for the backing, makes me smile.
With this quilt I was wanting to make something Christmassy but not too Christmassy. I think it would go well with a country/vintage/scandi Christmas decor but could also be used as a sofa or bed throw or child’s quilt throughout the year. This quilt is is 60″ x 60″. The gingham is a Free Spirit quilting fabric, the white is a Bella Solid and the binding is a Quilting Plains red. I used Hobbs 80/20 Fusible wadding and Bottom Line thread.
Have you started thinking about Christmas yet?

So simple and so lovely — I want one! Your last pic deserves a place in a very nice magazine:-)
I love it! You're right, it could definitely be a Christmas quilt, but it wouldn't look at all out of place in hue high house the rest of the year. Perfect! :)
So pretty and simply perfect. Hope your back improves soon. I wonder what you and RL are cooking up – trouble if my American friend is involved! ;-)
I love the free range quilting! A very Scandinavian quilt, yummy!
Absolutely darling. I love the gingham and dots.
Am in love with the true red/white! So very sweet. YES…use this one year round for sure.

Very pretty, simple but effective. Definitely has that scandi feel, perfect for Christmas. I hope your back's fully recovered very soon :)
This is gorgeous Janine, I love square patchwork quilts and the fresh, unfussyness of yours is beautiful. I love the backing you've used as well.
This is a lovely two color quilt. Sometimes simple designs are the simply the best … :)
