One of the reasons I love to join in with the SAHRR is that after Christmas and before Spring properly takes off in the garden is the time of year I can most reliably commit to sewing. But sometimes things take a very unexpected turn. This year Mr RH has had to undergo major surgery. Thankfully, it has been successful.
In the odd moments amongst all the appointments and visiting and children and grandchildren staying and driving back and forth, I had to prioritise decorating a cake (which luckily I had baked a month ago) for the Christening of my youngest granddaughter, which took place on Sunday. The Sweet Pea Fairy figurine on the top is: Flower Fairies 726931 by Cicely Mary Barker and everything else is icing.

And I have got behind with my SAHRR blocks.
But, now, Spring is here, the moon is smiling – holding the rain in – and we have frosty mornings and sunny days and every reason for high hopes.

Last night I saw the linky party was still open so I have made one kite block to link up with Emily @ The Darling Dogwood.

I am planning to make 5 more the same and applique them between the points of the centre star and the small stars (which will have to move a bit).

I hope, by the parade I will have caught up with everyone and made some more progress…

Here is the SAHRR schedule:
- January 13: Visit each of the co-hosts to see their centre block. DONE
- January 20: 1st Round: Kathleen @ Kathleen McMusing DONE
- January 27: 2nd Round: Anja @ Anja Quilts
- February 3: 3rd Round: ME!!! @ Quilting Gail DONE
- February 10: 4th Round: Wendy @ Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Life Done
- February 17: 5th Round: Brenda @ Songbird Designs
- February 24: 6th Round: Emily @ The Darling Dogwood DONE
- March 24: Parade: showing all of your finished SAHRRs!
Happy Sewing!

(If you subscribe to my blog by email, firstly, thank you :) Secondly, I really recommend you view the web version because otherwise you end up with a random scramble of photos and I don’t know how to stop that happening).

Sure glad to hear that Mr. RH came through the surgery well and is recovering. What a beautiful cake, Janine! You really have a talent for that! I cannot wait to see your finished SAHRR!

So glad to hear Mr. RH came through the surgery and is recovering well. Your kite block is really cute, but that cake is aaahhmmaazzzinggg!! My daughter and I took the Wilton courses and she taught it at Michaels to make extra money while she was in college. We had a blast making cakes, but I’m not sure I could do it anymore! Great job. I look forward to seeing your finished SAHRR in the parade!

Hi Janine, what an amazing cake! I hope that Mr. RH is doing ok. Having similar issues with my own Mr. Hopefully it’s not too serious. Good luck with catching up. It’s been so much fun. Your quilt looks great! Andrée
