Cait sìth Mosaic

This quarter, our theme for The Endeavourers art quilt challenge was ‘Mosaic’.

I did not get off to a great start!

To be honest, it was a bit of a disaster – first I took some scraps of silk with fusible on the back (left over from ‘Moon over Squircle’) and tried to arrange them freehand…Then I tried drawing and colouring tiles with a coloured pencil and outlining with hand stitches…

Then I saw this on X:

And I thought I know a little cat like that!

I always knew Fiona was special :)

So I took some background fabric and ironed fusible paper to the back and also fused a cat onto the front. Then I marked the mosaic pieces and cut and ironed them onto a piece of an old quilt.

After that, I machine stitches in all the spaces between the tiles.

No more mosaic quilting for me!

but I’m sure my fellow Endeavourers will have made some wonderful quilts so I hope you will pop over and visit them.

Happy February!

I’m with you on the no more mosaic quilting! But I liked all of your efforts, especially the bear made from the silk scraps. Fiona looks great; I really like the contrast of the plain black cat shape against the busy background.

I think one of the advantages of being in a group like this is that it pushes us to try new techniques and approaches to a design challenge. You have a terrific job! I think I would be lost, but to have the inspiration of your cat, plus figuring out a new way to make it shows your skills and talent. It’s a wonderful quilt!
