SAHRR Week 2

This week Kathleen @ Kathleen McMusing has given her prompt for the 1st Round of the SAHRR and her prompt was: Make a King’s Crown block/s for your first round OR make blocks that begin with your first initial or my initial (K)!

I’m not very up on quilt blocks and the only block beginning with “J” I could think of was Jazz Hands so I looked through some quilt books and found it in Material Obsession 2. I remembered buying that book about 10 years ago just because I wanted to make the Jazz Hands quilt but, as I skimmed through the instructions and read: “Each complete star is composed of 72 template pieces…”, I realised both why that never happened and that I would not be making rows of these this week!

I also realised Jazz Hands is probably the name of the quilt, rather than the block but, by now, I was reluctant to abandon the idea altogether so I decided to cut my hare centre block into a hexie and insert it into the Star block (instead of the ‘B’ triangles below).

Then, after a deal of time rummaging through fabric and trying to upsize the templates to fit with pieces of card, I realised I didn’t have enough of the fabrics I’d planned to use so I had to replace both the ‘B’ and ‘C’ triangles with the hare hexagon.

So, for this week’s round, I ended up making part of a block that probably doesn’t begin with my initial but it does brighten up a very grim day…

…Perhaps I can call it Jazz Hare?

Now it is time to visit Kathleen and see what everyone else has sewn this week :)

Here is the SAHRR schedule:

Happy Sewing!

(If you subscribe to my blog by email, firstly, thank you :) Secondly, I really recommend you view the web version because otherwise you end up with a random scramble of photos and I don’t know how to stop that happening).

Now this is a fun prompt! Lucky for us, we all have quilt books lying around, and I think your solution is terrific. Jazz Hare is a perfect name for this stage of the quilt, and I think it’s a wonderful frame for your rabbit. Well done!
