The Cardboard Castle

A cardboard castle was never on my to do list…

But, when I finally started to paint up the dollhouse I bought a long time ago on ebay and found a cupboard for it to stand on, I realised it is really too heavy and unstable to be safe for little children to play with. We will have to find somewhere for it to go on the floor or wait for the grandchildren to grow so, for the meantime, I made a cardboard castle. I built it around a wooden frame from a basket cabinet and it was very much inspired by the Maileg “Castle with Mirror”. I didn’t have wallpaper or get around to cutting openings but it fits in a selection of people and furniture and can easily be adapted in the future.

This was quite a quick, fun project. It was the first miniature I’ve made for playing and it was nice to see the little ones playing with it.

Now Autumn is upon us and we are back in GMT and I suppose we will soon have to start thinking about Christmas…

I have some felt decorations to finish and two new Christmas stockings to knit this year but, before that, the November Endeavourers reveal day is coming up.

    Truly, Janine, you are just so darn clever! =) Love, love, love your cardboard castle and all the pretties inside. Oh, if only I could climb those ladders and try out those comfy sofas and snooze a while in that princess-like bed. =) Your grandchildren must have the time of their lives playing at your home. Love seeing Poppy and Fiona again.

    I love this castle!! And of course, all the little touches, too: the darling people, the crocheted bed cover, the patterns and objects in their house. What a lovely creation for those children you love. I also enjoyed your photos of autumn — a feast for the eyes. I’d better get some apples in the house to make a cake or two!
