A Lot Of Sunflowers And A Little Felt

The farmer over the hedge is growing flowers…

He says is being paid to do it by the government instead of growing wheat and it is going to be ploughed into the ground – not harvested.

When covid hit, and again when the war in Ukraine started, we had all sorts of supply chain issues and we are still in the infamous ‘cost of living crisis’ so I should have thought it would be a wake up call for us to be less reliant on imports but apparently food security is still not any kind of national priority.

We do, however, have a lovely view…

Inside, I thought I would be here a bit more often this month (after my last post with its grand announcements of high hopes and great expectations) but, what with visitors and visiting and clearing the garden for the Winter, I’ve made less crafting progress than I hoped. I think I have set myself up in the garden to have less outside work next year though so, hopefully, some of that time will come back to me in the Spring.

And I did buy a Larissa Holland pattern bundle to make Santa, Mrs Claus and some elves. The patterns are excellent and, although my practice attempt isn’t amazing, I’ve found some smaller beads and some sequins now and I’m feeling fairly confident I can do better next time!

There are quite a few felt characters in the archives of Rainbow Hare but I haven’t made anything from felt in about ten years and I’ve never combined felt with embroidery before so it’s nice to be making something a bit a different.

And sewing Christmas ornaments gives me the feeling of being ahead although, really, I’m nearly a whole year behind with my original plans for 2024!

Now we are past the equinox and the evenings are drawing in, surely I will have more to show soon…

Red sky at night, sewist’s delight!

(If you subscribe to my blog by email, firstly, thank you :) Secondly, I really recommend you view the web version because otherwise you end up with a random scramble of photos and I don’t know how to stop that happening).

Hi Janine, Mrs Clause and the rabbit are so lovely. It’s fun to put a few crafts together. Your pictures are gorgeous. I hope that you have more time soon to play! Take care.
