Wool on Sundays – 38 (more of the same…)

Hello! And Welcome to Wool on Sundays 38. How has your week been? My week has seemed like a repetition of the last few weeks with everything stepping up a notch. With my daughter getting a bit better each day, I thought I was finished with hospital visits but unfortunately my mother in law had a stroke in the middle of the night last Sunday. Fortunately it was a small stroke, which has mostly affected the movement in her hand and the doctors are fairly confidant that, with time, she will regain that but it is very distressing for her as she lives alone and has always been very independent and it is, as yet, unclear how her recovery is going to progress.

On the one hand, we have been trying to encourage her to come and stay with us for a while when she allowed home from hospital and on the other, our animal situation is becoming increasingly bizarre. Having been accustomed to having Lucy (our very well behaved labrador, who sadly died in July), rabbits (who only come in on odd occasions) and strictly outside animals (like sheep, chickens and ducks), we now have puppy (a poorly trained spaniel) in the kitchen and two cats, who roam elsewhere downstairs and on the stairs and landing. As if that weren’t sufficient a baby pigeon turned up in the garden on Friday afternoon. We left it until it got dark in the hope that it’s mother would come for it and eventually brought it in and shut it in the living room with some hay, water and chicken food. I was hardly even surprised when I glanced through the window yesterday and noticed a large black dog in the garden…I was tempted to make a sign and put in on the gate saying ‘All creatures great and small welcome – the more, the merrier’. I genuinely began to ponder what number of random creatures secured in various places around the house for the purposes of preventing anyone eating anyone else could tip a person over the edge…

My knitting this week is also more of the same but, in this case, more in a good way. The grey cardigan has grown to having one arm done up the armpit and the body has grown a couple of inches.

And the socks have grown a few rows. They would have grown a few more but I started the chart in the wrong place and had to unknit 6 rows, which wasn’t much fun of small circular needles!
After some comments last week, I thought I’d just mention that I think the key to getting an even finish on the right side with two colour knitting is to always keep the same colour on top on the wrong side as you work. With these I am keeping the red on top throughout.
Edited to add: The large black dog is now reunited with its owners and we have now found a rescue centre to take the pigeon.

Do you have any yarn projects in progress? If so, I’d love you to link up with WOOL ON SUNDAYS. The rules as usual are:

1). Posts must include some content – makes or musings or photos – related to knitting, crochet, felting, spinning or yarn.
2). Projects sewn from felt or wool fabric or stitchery using wool are also welcome but please don’t link posts that are exclusively about sewing, quilting and fabrics.
3). Posts don’t have to be from the past week but please put a link to WOOL ON SUNDAYS or grab the button from my sidebar and include it in or at the bottom of any posts you link up.
4). Visit anyone else who links.

Wishing you a happy week :)

Glad the pigeon is in a rescue centre. It's good that your MIL will make a full recovery so all worked out well. Your grey cardigan will look good and the red socks are a colourful pattern :)

I'm sorry to hear about the health issues. It can be so trying for everyone involved. Sounds like you all are on the right track though and will find yourselves on the other side a little bit stronger.

Slow progress is better than no progress. I love what you're up to. :)

Sending you a big warm hug! It would be lovely for your MIL to stay for a while with you. Oh your house sounds lively with all those critters making their presence known. Good luck with training that spaniel. We have one and let's just say, though terribly intelligent, she doesn't seem to want to display it very often. Mmmmm….”All Creatures Great and Small”……sounds like a great title for an even greater book! ;))

The knit is a gorgeous colour, it looks really snuggly and warm.
I love hearing about your animals, though this post put a picture in my head of you running manically from room to room checking they're all still where they should be, funny.
hope all the ailments leave you and yours alone for a good while.

I do hope that your Mum-in-law makes a full recovery soon. It sounds as if you are Noah reincarnated with all the animals flocking to you ;-) I am super surprised that you have the time to write your posts let alone get any knitting done. Thank you for your posts as I do enjoy reading.Good luck with all you do

I am so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law, but I am very relieved that it was a small one and that she will make a full recovery. Thank you for the knitting tip, I shall keep that in mind. I wonder if the critters are making small scratch marks around your place to notify other critters that your home is very hospitable :)

I like the texture of the cardigan, and the socks look great. Yesterday was the first time I ever tried knitting with two colours. It was a fun experience.

Good luck with your animals. Hope your mother-in-law is recovering well.
