Far to go…

Four years ago today I was in Venice – something I find very hard to imagine now, though I did post a slideshow at the time. This week, I have been strictly confined to the house, having finally succumbed to covid. Thankfully, I haven’t been unwell and I hope I’ll be testing negative in a day or two…

It has given me a lot of time for crafting and I keep thinking I’ll have a finish soon but that’s not looking very likely so I thought I’d post an update.

A long time ago I posted the beginnings of a bar I made from cardboard. I have eventually made a back for it using an upside-down wall shelf and the top of a door.

I then remade the top of the door and made a cardboard chimney breast.

Although I’m not a fan of brown, I ended up trying to create a wood effect because there’s no getting away from the fact that English pubs are just mahogany and mahogany and mahogany. It’s all looking a bit drab at the moment but I think it’ll look ok once it’s finished and accessorised…

Really, that’s what I probably should have worked on this week but, coincidently, the weekend before my positive test my son helped me (or more truthfully, I helped him a very little) to put together a double shop kit (which I hope to put in a small parade of shops with the pub) and I have been working on that instead. A problem I find with these miniatures is that you glue or paint something quite quickly but then you have a long wait for it to dry. With the new building, as there was so much to paint, I was able to get more done and, despite appearances, I think I will have some more interesting finished areas to show soon…

I hope you are keeping happy and well :)

(If you subscribe to my blog by email, firstly, thankyou :) Secondly, I really recommend you view the web version because otherwise you end up with a random scramble of photos and I don’t know how to stop that happening).

From one not-a-fan-of-brown girl to another your bar looks fabulous; so authentic. Great that your Covid symptoms are mild. Only four years since you were in Venice; oh, how the world has changed. I don’t suppose there are many people enjoying the view from a gondola at the moment. Take care, Janine.

I’m so sorry you’ve been dealing with Covid, but I’m very impressed with your bar – it looks so realistic! I’m not sure I’d have the patience to work with those small things, but you do it well!

Hi Janine, I hope that your covid symptoms remain minimal! I am fascinated by your work and the patience that it must require! My big hands have difficulty working with miniatures-and I’m more of a bull in a China shop kind of girl :-) enjoy your play time and take care.

I’ve managed to avoid COVID so far but I’d be quite happy with the ill-but-well-enough-to-craft version! the bar is looking amazing – in the photo it looks real sized!!!
