This month, I have been working on the Something Different blocks for my One Monthly Goal challenge.
It was making eight blocks and setting them into the layout of the squares and rectangles underlying a Golden Spiral.
I have achieved my goal (yay!) of sewing the blocks and I’ve sewn them together and quilted them so I will link this post with OMG
But I’m undecided about what to do next.
On the one hand, I’m inclined to add a QAYG border and finish it up but, on the other, I have some abandoned (wrong-size!) blocks and I’d quite like to keep going and make it into more of a sampler quilt…but then I don’t know that I’d actually want a sampler quilt.
I’ve never used blocks in an intentional layout (apart from traditional repeat patterns) before or made a sampler quilt and some of the blocks are made up so, whatever I end up doing with it, this is certainly a new-to-me project so I’m also linking this post with New to Me at Celtic Thistle Stitches.
Another new-to-me was finding Fiona sitting on Mrs Hare’s lap reading to her – apparently cats always read sideways :)

It’s a lovely quilt! I really love the happy colors on this one, and the big, mod flowers. If you aren’t sure you want to keep it, perhaps you could donate it to someone who could use a quilty hug?

Hi Janine,
I find these blocks and your color choice particularly pleasing. I like mathematical layouts like this. Working on a quilt now based on the first eight numbers of the Fibonacci sequence: 0,1,2,3,5,8,13,21. I’ve crocheted a blanket or two using Fibonacci numbers, too.

Live dangerously and continue with a sampler quilt. =) I would love to see what wonderful imaginations you dream up. What you have finished is fabulous. Love the vase of flowers. How clever that Fiona can read sideways. Such a sweet photo of her and Mrs Hare. Ahh…the magic of the animal kingdom.

I’m not at all mathematically minded ….. I think you should carry on with the sampler idea!
Nice to see Fiona again, they do sit in the strangest places don’t they! I was most surprised to find our cat, who is Fiona’s double, laying, in our hallway, spread out on a chair right by our front door this morning ….. it really is the iciest of hallways!

Well, you sure nailed that golden spiral. I’m not leaving a finish suggestion because I prefer to keep my choice to myself and see if it is the same one you chose. I especially wonder the thought process of the circle with a plus arrow through it though.

You mini looks wonderful!! I like how you used the tessellating fish. I would love to see you continue with this quilt. Mrs. Hare looks a bit gobsmacked with Fiona on her lap. Why am I not surprised to hear that cats read sideways :)

That’s a fab top, I love the idea of adding their blocks- think of it as a kitchen sink quilt rather than a sampler? Puss looks very comfortable with Mrs hare!
