Welcome to another Wool on Sundays :)
Since my last post, I’m sorry to say, my blog visiting and email-replying has been abysmal and I can only apologise. I will catch up soon. Sadly, my MIL died on June 22nd. She had lately been in hospital and had very recently moved into a Nursing Home where she seemed to be getting better and better. We had visited her just the day before and we were not expecting it at all. And it just didn’t feel right to plunge back into to visiting fun posts and leaving cheerful comments. And there have also been lots of extra things to do.
Luckily for Wool on Sundays, my Granny Stripe Blanket, which just needed the ends sewing in and a border last month was already finished (and you’ve probably seen all but the border already).
Whilst I was crocheting all the stripes I daydreamed about the wonderful, lavish border I would add but, in the end, I settled for a simple charcoal edging.
I used a brilliant tutorial by Lucy at Attic 24 and worked with dk – mostly Drops Karisma but with some WYS wools and a few odd acrylic yarns to expand the colour range. It’s very thick and warm and big enough to cover a single bed. As with all stash-busting projects, I seem to have more yarn now than I started with!
Although it’s a very simple, plain sort of pattern, I think it’s my favourite crochet blanket so far…

Now we are past the longest day, I see the sun setting more southerly along the hedge every evening and I think in no time Spring will be with you and our cold, dark days will be back!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, Janine. I completely understand why blogging seemed inappropriate at this sad time. As you know I stopped blogging altogether after my brother died as I just lost heart. I left it for so long that I got out of the habit of it.
Your Granny blanket is lovely and I think the charcoal coloured edge gives it a more modern look.
I hope you have enjoyed the sun today. Sunny but not too hot. Wonderful!

I am so sorry to hear about your Mother in Law Janine. it is always worse when it is unexpected. I keep admiring your blanket and keep trying to Crochet in rows but I still find it difficult. I tried adding a Piglet I knitted today to your Link thingy. I don’t think I have managed to do it. Take care now. Marion X

I’m so sorry about your mother-in-law, Janine – of course blogging and blog hopping and commenting would take a back seat. The blanket is beautiful – I would never have thought that a charcoal border would complement the colours so well but it’s really quite perfect!

I was telling my husband just yesterday, I hope something is not wrong with Janine. I was hoping to hear that you had internet connection problems again, not the sad news. I am so sorry to hear about your mother in law. I find knitting/crocheting very healing and therapeutic at times like this. Your Granny Stripe Blanket is beautiful and the charcoal border enhances all the colours beautifully. I love the photos you took, so wonderfully cosy.

Stun-ning granny blanket you’ve completed. I would love to make one just like that, it is adorable. Was saddened to hear of a loved ones passing. That is never-ever an easy situation for any of us to go through. I like to take comfort in knowing that the departed are in Heaven… but it still cuts you to the core with grief on their leaving…

I’m just catching up on things after getting back from 2 wks north and very sorry to hear the news about your MIL, however I’m pleased that there was some improvement beforehand as it would have given you all a bit more quality time xo.
Your stripes blanket looks great! I have plans for one of these, but it’s quite a way down the list at present…… and how lovely of you to think about us here in Australia ( or Oz as it’s also affectionately known as lol) we sure have been having some bitter cold down south! I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother-in-law, Janine. It is always a difficult time when a much loved person passes from our lives. Sending you a big hug from chilly Tassie. Yes….we have passed the shortest day and days are getting a little longer. =) Bring on Spring! Your granny blanket is beautiful. So many happy colours to brighten one’s day.
