Wool on Sundays – 122 (Abandoned)

I’m sorry to say, although I haven’t actually abandoned it, I’ve still not finished with the ends on the rustic lace blanket. We went on holiday and I had thought I’d take it with me but I decided it was too big so I made a few more hexies (photo above), which I have abandoned for now. I like them but I don’t like them enough to carry on to a blanket size so I’m leaving them for a while until I decide what to do with them. Probably a cushion or bag…

Then I thought I’d try crocheting a cardigan. I’m not a big fan of crochet cardigans but I was so keen to crochet on holiday, rather than knit, I thought I could make a dense knitted type of texture. I made a long chain and did more than a few rows of hdcs (sorry no photo) – and it was like cardboard! Then I tried trebles using a V stitch and I quite liked the texture…

But I had serious doubts about it all through to be honest. I ploughed on through the yoke and made a start on a sleeve, hoping I was still at getting-worse-before-it-gets-better stage, but when I eventually tried it on I had to concede that the more I went on, the more bizarre and ill-fitting it was becoming :(

So this I properly abandoned!

The lesson, I think, is that if you want a cardigan that looks knitted, it’s best to knit it.

    I love the look of knit and the lacy projects I have seen. I always wished I would sit down and learn to knit properly but never found…no MADE the time. I love crochet but never make garments except for little girls. It’s almost time for me to get back to my temperature afghan, but still just a bit too warm to have that huge piece sitting on my lap. The hexies are so pretty and colorful and a great take along project.

    Your mini cardi looks rather sweet, actually – but I think most of us know about projects that – despite our best efforts and wishes – just don’t go the way we want them to go :) The yarn ball is gorgeous – you did a great job on it! ;) When it comes to sewing faux pas’, sometimes abandonment is the only answer :D I’ll throw things away if there’s no salvaging them, or will put them in a bag and hide them away for a month or more – sometimes when you go back to them you can’t even remember what the problem was :) Other times, though – the bag either goes to a friend or Freecycle to be finished, or right to the thrift store (if possible, with all the bits and pieces that could be used to finish it) – life is too short to work on things that we really REALLY do not want to finish :)
