New to Me in May + Fresh Sewing Day

Have you linked up any new things you’ve tried this month with Fiona?

My most exciting ‘New to Me’ in May was having my Caravan Pattern featured on the News page of the June Edition of Cross Stitcher Magazine. I was amazed when Katie Allen sent me an etsy convo asking to include it and, although I’ve got used to seeing my sewing on a computer screen, it was very exciting to find it in a ‘real’ magazine in a shop in our nearest town!

I’ve also tried making several new things with mixed results.

I made a cushion, blogged here, from this book by the very talented Cécile Balladino.

And some crochet bunting (something I’ve been meaning to do forever!) inspired by the same book.

And I appliquéd some mice using Wash Away appliqué sheets. I’ve never tried these before sheets and I loved them.

And I saw a sweet tea pot pincushion on pinterest from Join the Mood with a tute and an excellent tutorial by Manuela and I made one straight away – that’s definitely a first for me!

And, finally I made a dress using the Merchant & Mills (paper) Dress Shirt pattern. It has bib front panel, which is not something I’ve tried before, and I also used Blades Linen from Calico Laine. 

I’m not sure I’ll use this pattern again but I certainly see more linen in my future…

    WOW you really got a lot done under the “new” umbrella! I struggle with it and tend to stay in my comfort zone, so posting to New to Me is exactly the kick in the butt I need to try new things :) Congrats on being published – that IS a huge honour :) All your projects look sweet to me – especially the crochet bunting, which is totally adorable :) The dress looks fantastic in the picture above, but I saw your (longer) post about it and it was definitely roomy – I would have been so disappointed to use beautiful fabric and not get stellar results :( My legs are proportionally far skinnier than my upper half, so I have to fit pants to my waist, which means that most of them will look like crap on me. I tried on a pair of linen pants yesterday and fell in LOVE with the fabric – it just felt so nice on – but the pants looked dreadful because of the apple thang – they fit to my waist, but were far too baggy everywhere else!

    Wow, congratulations! I love Cross Stitcher, and that is so exciting!
    I adore your dress (as well as all the other makes). I agree, I have made dresses before that end up looking tent-like. But this one is lovely! And that fabric and colour are divine.
