Wool on Sundays – 59 (the nothing’s going right edition!)

Welcome to Wool on Sundays – 59!

This week, it seems that, yarnwise, nothing is going quite right! We’ve spent all day moving furniture about so I’ve had no time to make a post and now the photos are black and white because they are indoor night time pictures and they just look hideous in colour!

The yellow cardigan has grown but whether it will fit is anyone’s guess. If I measure a tension square it is very much out (something I’ve noticed before when using Garn Studio patterns with yarn that isn’t Drops but I had forgotten about it) but when I measure the whole thing it seems to be about the right size. Perhaps I’ll have to diet…

Apart from discovering that, my attempt at the: KNITFreedom – Liat’s Limitless Cast-On for Two-at-a-Time ANYTHING! was a shambles! I made at least three attempts on various evenings but the needle part of my circular needle seemed to be too long or something and my stitches just jammed and wouldn’t turn. In the end I gave up and I’m knitting the sleeves back and forth, which is disappointing because I was really looking forward to a no-sew finish. I did consider buying dpns but my local yarn shops are very limited in stock (and not very local) and I don’t want to place an online order just for needles. I also think I should master that two at a time business but I don’t want to lose momentum on this cardigan.

And finally, I think I have enough Hexies but I’m a bit stuck on what to next to get them into a cushion – whether to bite the bullet and make lots of halves or just fold the edge over…
I hope your projects are going better than mine at the moment :)

Whether they are or not, I’d love you to link up with WOOL ON SUNDAYS. The rules as usual are: 1). Posts must include some content – makes or musings or photos – related to knitting, crochet, felting, spinning or yarn. 2). Projects sewn from felt or wool fabric or stitchery using wool are also welcome but please don’t link posts that are exclusively about sewing, quilting and fabrics. 3). Posts don’t have to be from the past week but please put a link to WOOL ON SUNDAYS or grab the button from my sidebar and include it in or at the bottom of any posts you link up. 4). Visit anyone else who links. Wishing you a happy week :)

Some weeks are like that, aren't they and I feel 'bad' knitting days are more frequent than not….at least they are for me. As for your hexie cushion, I rather like the idea of crocheting halves…..sorry, I know you didn't want to hear that. :) At the risk of boring you to death…your hexie cover is gorgeous!!

I will have to say it again too – the hexies are gorgeous! I so need to learn to crochet. I must be able to teach myself from Youtube, surely?! Hope the knitting is going a bit better now. It is good to have more than one craft as I find I will go on with something else if I get frustrated. When you come back after a while, it is normally better! Not sure how – probably because you stop stressing about it so much. Have a lovely week!

The black and white pics are artsy – they were a design decision, weren't they? ;) As far as the hexies – I'd go with the git 'r done version to get it done, but … wouldn't the folded hexies be thick at what would be the seam area for the pillow? Maybe I'm imagining the pillow construction wrong – I would rather do halves than have thick folded bits :D BTW – I made a zipper bag yesterday and when I was finishing it up, I cut off the zipper head instead of putting it within the bag and trimming the extra part – I ended up with a zipper-free zipper bag which had to be tossed – we all have those days!

I'm not sure how you should finish the hexies. Is it very difficult to do half hexagons?. What about appliquéing them to a background? No forget that, silly idea, I have appliqué on the brain. You will have to scroll all the way down my post to get to the knitting finish- sorry!

Hi Janine, my knitting is always a struggle so once again I'm taking my hat off to your magical ways with the knitting needles. Regarding hexagons halves they are a bit different to making the whole ones and I'd suggest allowing yourself time to play around to make them to suit you (it's not complicated but all the patterns I was finding were to say do it a certain way which didn't really work for me)…..it is a bit more time consuming but halfsies do make the edge look beautiful (and they are less bulky than folding them over)
And a message to Jayne, youtube is great for tutorials but if you can find a real live person to teach or show you then that is so much easier. I tried learning from a book (one for children becasue I thought if they can do it so can I…..yeah, that didn't work) but realised sitting down with someone who can explain what you are doing (wrong…it's inevitable when you are learning) is the bestest bestest way. My secret weapon for calmness when learning anything is a Werther's Original…xx

I am so sorry, Janine! Some weeks are just like that. I usually take a deep breath, walk away and then come back to the projects. The BW photos look wonderful and the hexies are looking fabulous. So it's not all bad, you see :)
