Wool on Sundays – 56 (Colour and Calm)

Welcome to Wool on Sundays – 56.

 

This week I have been arranging hexagons…

 

…and re-arranging hexagons…

And frogging! I know I said wouldn’t frog but I decided to try changing the outer row of trebles for double crochets, which I think gives a better effect because it makes the edges pop a bit more, although these are night time phone photos and don’t show the colours very well.
Then Fiona decided she’d help me rearrange the hexagons, though we didn’t always agree on colour combinations.

 

War and Peace continued, after a fashion…

 

 

And in the end I thought I the only way I could get the hexagons to stay in any arrangement for long enough to think about what to do with them next was to sew them together.

Meanwhile, outside it was snowing, freezing and thawing repeatedly – except for the pond, which started thawing at one end and is slowly melting towards the house. Although it freezes and melts all the time, it has never done that before.
Mitten weather – don’t you think?
Some 2.25mm dps, which I ordered last week arrived so I have taken a break from the colourful hexagons in the menagerie to do some quiet knitting with calm colours. And to make another attempt at knitting this chart, which I found on pinterest. The chart is 68 stitches round but I’m hoping with these needles and drops fabel (4 ply), they will come out small enough. In the border pattern, btw, the zig zag has a 6 stitch repeat and the other border pattern has a 15 stitch repeat so I am knitting the cuff on 60 stitches. I mention this because, should you leap into knitting this chart, you may well find yourself thinking something is not right and start scrutinising your work for mistakes and waste a fair while before you notice the pattern does not in fact run seamlessly around the wrist in they way you would probably expect and want it to – all in all, it’s been a frogging kind of week :)

    Your hexagons look like a beautiful millefiori paperweight. Fab. I've been trying a few crochet hearts but not sure what I will do with them. I'll link up next week with some knitting progress but I've been doing too much sewing this week. Have a great week.

    I love the cheerfulness of all your Hexagons! Our weather here in Seattle has been so warm and mild this winter that I forget what it looks like when it freezes. I think it was in the upper 50s today! I just looked at that chart you are knitting, and ummm….pretty sure I will never be attempting that! Have a super week….

    Heehee I think Fiona knew what she was doing when she decided to gambol amongst the hexies – look how well they go with her colouring! ;)

    You're lucky you have the thawing part of your weather to give you a bit of a break – here we're expecting it to go down to -30C on the weekend (with the windchill) – I don't see any thawing in our immediate future – ugh!! Definitely mittens weather – and long underwear too! :)

    your colourful hexagons look gorgeous…seeing your little kitty helper made me laugh so much (Bernard is exactly the same, and often throws wool or thread on the floor if his artistic sensibilities are being upset!)….it's really interesting seeing how you've changed the pattern, how have your sewn the hexagons together, have you used a single crochet on the back? I like how you double crocheted the outer round instead of using a treble stitch, it really does intensify the colours. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous xx
