Wool on Sundays – 11 (Sunrise)

Welcome to another Wool on Sundays!

Thank you very much to everyone who stopped by last week.

This week, I have been working on a couple of (still unfinished) secret projects and today I was going to share some tiny peeks of knitting and crochet but, as the weather and my internet connection don’t get along well and I was unable to link up with Le Challenge, I decided to post my Sunrise Girl here instead. Although I’ve been thinking of her as a sewing project, I’m giving her an honorary yarn status because she is made mostly from a wool blend felt, with some wool felt and her hair is anchor tapestry wool.

She was inspired by a Chinese Folktale and my morning drive across the South Downs.

Here is the folktale:

A Chinese Folktale

A long time ago, when the world was very much younger that it is today, Cock and Dragon were the best of friends and they took tea together every morning.

In those days, Cock had a very fine pair of horns. They were the finest horns in the animal kingdom and Cock was very proud of them. Now, one day, as they drank their morning tea, Dragon asked Cock if he could borrow those horns. Naturally, Cock was very reluctant let them out of his sight so, although he was reluctant to offend his friend, he made all sorts of excuses to avoid letting him borrow them.

But as they drank their morning tea, Dragon begged and begged.

“I so much want to fly up to Heaven,” pleaded Dragon, “And when they see your beautiful horns, they’ll be sure to let me in.”

In the end, Cock gave in. He felt very proud that the people in Heaven would see his beautiful horns so he made a bargain with Dragon. He said he would lend the horns to Dragon to fly up to show the people in heaven but he must be back by sunrise the next morning. Of course, Dragon agreed at once. He put on the magnificent pair of horns very carefully and then he flew straight up into the sky.

And, I’m very sorry to say, that Cock has never seen Dragon or his beautiful horns since.

But he has never forgotten. And that is why, every morning at sunrise, you’ll hear him crowing. He is crying up to the heavens, calling “Cocker-doodle-doo!” as loudly as he can.

And, in chicken language, that means “Dragon! Bring back my horns!”

And here is my Sunrise Girl:

If you have any woolly projects this week, I’d love you to link up with WOOL ON SUNDAYS. The rules as usual are:

1). Posts must include some content – makes or musings – related to knitting, crochet, felting, spinning or yarn.
2). Projects sewn from felt or wool fabric or stitchery using wool are also welcome but please don’t link posts that are exclusively about sewing, quilting and fabrics.
3). Posts don’t have to be from the past week but please put a link to WOOL ON SUNDAYS or grab the button from my sidebar and include it in or at the bottom of any posts you link up.
4). Visit anyone else who links.

Wishing you a very happy week :)
