This Drops Paris was my Christmas present from my MIL. I ordered it from Wool Warehouse and their service was amazing! I ordered it after lunch one day (using the standard free delivery option for orders of £25 and over) and it arrived the very next morning. As soon as I saw it I was entranced, like a child with a new box of colouring pencils – you know when you first see them and they’re all perfect.
I”ve been inspired by Teresa’s beautiful projects at Crafty Bags since forever and I bought the yarn with a crochet project in mind but I had been meaning to finish off some felt birds/work on the stripy cardigan/make some more felted mittens during my sewing time this week and start on some crochet afterwards. As soon as this yarn arrived, though, that all went out of the window. I snatched up a crochet hook and started a chain and I’ve been stitching away on this every time I’ve had a spare minute since.
To begin with I was stitching because I thought it was going to be the most amazing thing I’ve ever made…and now I’m stitching because I’m not exactly in love with how it’s turning out but I’m afraid it will end up being a UFO if I lose momentum and waste all that beautiful yarn. At the moment I’m really regretting the rainbow theme. The colours, individually, are nicer than these night time photos but the blue-purple section just seems too dark and I ended up abandoning the medium purple altogether because it just didn’t go with anything else.
It’s also much bigger than I expected (did I mentioned I’ve never crocheted an actual object before?) but before I appreciated quite how wide it was, I’d done so much that I didn’t want to unravel it so I’ve had to order more yarn (now it’s my Christmas present from my MIL and my Mum!)
But I’m determined to press on and I’m hoping it’ll all turn out right in the end. The colours are quite tricksy and I’ve noticed that when I’m crocheting the duller colours I feel like unravelling the whole piece whilst the sunny colours seem to make me feel much more optimistic about it and the pinks have a definite feel good vibe. On the bright side (no pun intended) it will be warm and snug and useful even if it does end up looking hideous

Oh my gosh certainly not hideous – the colours look quite lovely to me – very rich and summery! Get that finished put it to use – it'll be like being wrapped in a rainbow!

From what I can see, it is looking good. If you finish it and still don't like it, you could always back it with a pretty cotton print and use it with the cotton side facing up.

I don't think it's hideous, I think it's lovely! Crocheting a blanket is a big undertaking but you seem to have done a lot! I can't link up today as I haven't done any crocheting at all!

It looks lovely, Janine! Don't focus on the darker color only when you are making it, think about the whole color spectrum you have there. That should cheer you up significantly :)
