Wool on Sundays – 4 (the nightmare edition!)

My knitting has been a nightmare this week!
It started with a commission for gloves and mittens. Yay! I thought. I found a motif that the client really liked and and decided to use k2, p2 rib to show it off. And I knitted up a fingerless glove. Then I knitted another and the rib pattern thumb decreases didn’t match. I frogged back to the beginning of the decreases, knitted it again and it still didn’t match. Eventually I realized that it was because one thumb centre was in the middle of two purl stitches and the other was in the middle of two knit stitches. I frogged both gloves back to the cuffs, charted the thumbs and re-knitted both, centring the thumbs in between a knit and a purl stitch. I decided not to do the fingers again (because the wool – Drops Karisma – was a bit thick) and to stick with fingerless mittens…

 

And now the thumbs match but they are too loose! So should I unpick a few rows and decrease more or use some knit-in elastic or put them through a machine wash and try to shrink them a bit in the dryer?
Then I thought I’d knit up some felted mittens whilst I pondered what to do with fingerless ones. I got off to a flying start…
…and ran out of wool with the thumbs still to go :(
I do hope you’ve been having more luck with your yarn projects than I have.

    Lovely colour and cable pattern. I had to redo my fingerless gloves at the thumb too to pick up stitches so it centred correctly and I think my gloves are too loose at the end. I may make them a bit longer. Love both the pin knits especially the shawl :)

    I am so impressed with anyone that can knit! And I bet your client will be happy to know that you spent to much time making it perfect. Will love to see you make that cardigan too, very pretty.

    Same problems as sewing – but frogging is a bit quicker? I don't think it matters that the thumbs have room for movement. Im a few digits short on one hand so can't buy gloves, but my lovely mother in law used to knit me gloves to fit, its a great skill
