Welcome to Wool on Sundays!
If you’re wondering Why wool? and Why Sundays? you can find an explanation here.
I’ve had a very hard-to-keep-up-with-blogs-week but I really did appreciate everyone’s encouragement and enthusiasm and I’d like to thank everyone who commented and linked up. I’m hoping to get back on track this week :) Luckily, since knitting is so portable, I’ve managed to make some progress on a couple of projects.
Firstly, the taa daa moment! Did you guess what this was meant to turn into? What do think?
I think I could probably get it a bit smoother at the edges by stuffing something inside it and steaming it with an iron. Perhaps I’ll try a towel or something. I’ve never worn a beret before and I’m not 100% sure about wearing this one but we’ve had several frosts this week and the colder it gets, the less fussy I am about what I look like!
I’m most pleased with the little loop. DPNs and I aren’t always the best of friends and I was very tempted to leave off this 8 stitches X 15 rows in the round but I think it’s ended up being my favourite part. I used this pattern from Black Sheep Wools – the same booklet that I made the purple felted mittens from – and I’m loving this felted knitting so far. Without wanting to tempt fate, I think I’ve got the hang of how Wash + Filz It shrinks enough to start branching out from the pattern book now and I just wish I could knit faster to make about a hundred pairs of mittens by Christmas.
I’ve also re-started the Refraction Shawlette pattern that I was lucky enough to win a giveaway hosted by Nat at Made in Home and I’m hoping this is going to be third time lucky. I almost finished it a few weeks ago but I wasn’t really happy with the gauge I’d used. This time I’m using 5mm needles, which are really a bit too big, but I’m much happier with lacy effect now and it will end up a bit bigger, which I’ll find more useful. I know I’ll run out of yarn but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. I’d love to get this finished in time for Christmas but I’m also busy with gifts so I’ll have to see if I have time.

Love the shawlette pattern. Sadly, I have no knitting to show as I had to unpick it: grrrrrr

Your new beret is sooo cute! I really like the little loop too. The lace on the shawl is absolutely beautiful. My next year challenge is to learn lace.

Having recently finished my first ever knitted item, I'm quite loving (simple) knitting projects. I love all your projects Janine (you're on a different level altogether) and the refraction shawl is incredible!
