I’ve finished tripping along!

This has been a long trip! I started it at the end of January and had it pieced and half quilted by about the end of February and since then it’s always been in the back of my mind that I really should get it finished up. I really don’t like having UFOs!

So on Friday night I decided I wouldn’t start anything else until I’d got it finished.

I didn’t have nearly enough scraps to attempt this so I used some fat quarters and cut into some half yards and I cut the strips at 3 1/2 inches so the squares finish at 3 inches.

I quilted a straight line on each side of the ditch in both directions, giving a grid effect, which I quite like. and because I think the overall effect of these fabrics is a bit shabby (hopefully in a ‘shabby chic’ kind of way, rather just shabby) I took the opportunity to use up some Cath Kidston yardage that I’ve always regretted buying for the back. I love roses but I’m not mad about roses on fabric and these ones (I think they were my first internet fabric purchase) were not quite what I expected and always remind me of the lines in the Kipling poem, Mine was but an idle quest–Roses white and red are best!

When it came to the binding, I wanted something to go with the back and the front and, eventually, I settled on Kona Parchment.

And I stayed up very late and got up very early and at last it was finished!

    Janine, It's really awesome! The layout of one big diamond is fantastic. I understand your feeling about the blue roses on the backing fabric, but it really works for this quilt. Hooray for your finish!

    Lovely! The roses are nicely retro. Internet fabric shopping can mean surprises, for me it's usually the scale that's way different to what I imagined, not all shops have a scale guide.

    This is lovely and very shabby chic in a wonderful way. I personally love the crinkled effect. I really like the way you added the border with the slightly longer blocks. It makes a nice frame. Well done! … :) Pat

    I remember when I did one of these scrappy trips and I had to cut into FQ's of yellow and orange to get some more. Blue was easily accessible in my scraps. I love the pastel colors in yours!!

    Yes I agree with Kathleen O'Grady your quilt is quite lovely! Love the colors. I too purchased some fabric with blue roses (no red on it) that has been sitting in my stash for quite awhile. Backing might be the best use for it now.
