3 Blocks

Lately, I haven’t been making much progress so this is a short WIP post. WIP is being hosted today by Bethany who blogs at Make Me A Quilt.

I have three small finishes in the last couple of weeks – all bee blocks.

This is my Scrappy? Sew be it! block for my Bee mate Jeanne who blogs at Grey Cat Quilts  she has designed a fab quilt. All the blocks are different and you can see them in the flickr group.

This is my July Star of Africa block for the lovely Patti who blogs at Retired to Quilt. In the Star of Africa we are an international bee and each month we are going to make a block related to our country with modifications decided by the Queen Bee of that month. Back in June, in a burst of enthusiasm and naivety I suggested I make a Jubilee block with Tower Bridge and lots of boats.  This turned out to be much more challenging than I expected and I’m sorry to say it didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped.

And, finally, this is my August Star of Africa block for May, our bee organiser extraordinaire, who blogs at Confessions of a Fabraholic. May wanted pink and she is planning to make a travel themed block showing some things a visitor to our countries might see and including photos and embellishments. I thought I’d better be less ambitious this time so May has a pieced tea cup, some bunting and Stonehenge. On the two Star of Africa blocks I tried something new – using TAP transfer paper. I was, overall, very pleased with effect although I found it didn’t work so well over a seam on Patti’s block and I unfortunately made it even worse by trying to fill the gaps with a sharpie :( It’s the first new thing I’ve tried recently so on Thursday I’ll link this up with Melissa for

I’m also going to link May’s block to the Colour My World Challenge with M-R at Quilt Matters whose Colour My World challenge colour last month was pink.

Leaving aside things that are lying untouched for weeks, I currently have in progress my Brit Quilt Swap mini. I had hoped to get this started ages ago or at least get it to a photogenic stage today but at least I’ve got it started and I’ll post some progress pictures soon.

    Ooh, that's a great use of pink, Janine! Love that punk bunting! Thanks for posting your thoughts on the artist transfer paper — I've been curious about that paper!

    Well done Janine – you are ahead of me ! May wants me to make a pastel Nessie! Now there's a challenge!

    I think you did a great job of the Jubilee – keep the bar set high and you will rise to the challenge! Have I been watching too much sport??

    Janine you are such a perfectionist. I think your blocks are amazing! I loved the scrappy block until I saw the bridge block – lusting over it. So cool! Way to take on a vision, sometimes it is hard to put what is in our heads into reality but (as I am not privy to what you envisioned mentally) I think this is amazing!
